Leasing
Under a lease, the product is made available to the lessee for use in return for regular lease payments. The product is recognized on the lessor’s balance sheet. Once the agreed basic lease term has expired, the product can generally be purchased.
Hire purchase
In economic terms, hire purchase is equivalent to an installment purchase. The product is recognized as an asset on the hire purchaser’s balance sheet and depreciated in accordance with the official AfA depreciation tables. Upon payment of the final hire-purchase installment, ownership of the asset transfers to the hire purchaser. VAT must be paid in full with the first hire-purchase installment (a pass-through item).
