Robust construction for abrasive blasting media
During sandblasting, the blasting medium is transported through the hose to the blast nozzle at high speed. As a result, the hose's inner tube is continuously exposed to severe abrasive wear.
The ExtraBlast features a specially designed, abrasion-resistant inner tube for this type of use. With an average abrasion value of no more than 50 mm³ according to DIN ISO 4649:2013, it offers a good service life for typical industrial and commercial blasting applications.
The smooth inner surface supports an even material flow and reduces turbulence and unnecessary flow resistance within the hose line.
Suitable for numerous blasting media
The Contracor ExtraBlast is designed for conveying highly abrasive media. These include, among others:
- Steel shot
- Angular steel grit
- Aluminum oxide
- Garnet sand
- Glass beads
- Mineral reusable blasting media
- Other dry, free-flowing blasting media
Whether a particular blasting medium can be used depends not only on its hardness, but also on particle size, particle shape, bulk density, and the design of the entire blasting system.
The hose is intended exclusively for dry blasting media with sufficient flowability. Damp or clumped material can impair the transport of the blasting media and lead to blockages.
Antistatic hose construction
When transporting dry blasting media, friction can generate an electrostatic charge. The ExtraBlast therefore features an antistatic hose construction with an electrical resistance of less than 1 MΩ.
The antistatic design supports the controlled dissipation of electrostatic charges. This requires the hose to be properly integrated into the grounding and safety concept of the entire blasting system.
The hose, couplings, blasting unit, blast gun or nozzle holder, and other conductive system components must be installed and grounded in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
The conductive or antistatic hose construction does not replace proper grounding of the entire blasting system. Equipotential bonding must be checked and ensured during installation.
Textile reinforcements for pressure resistance and stability
Woven textile reinforcements are located between the inner and outer layers. This reinforcement absorbs the compressive forces that occur during operation and stabilizes the hose against impermissible expansion.
The multilayer construction permits an operating pressure of up to 12 bar. The specified burst pressure is 36 bar, resulting in a 3:1 safety factor.
Burst pressure is not an allowable operating parameter. The hose may only be used continuously within the specified maximum operating pressure.
Which hose size is right?
The inside diameter of a sandblasting hose affects the possible air and abrasive flow rate, as well as the pressure loss between the blasting machine and blast nozzle. The hose size should therefore match the nozzle size, hose length, and compressor capacity.
| Inside diameter | Typical application |
|---|---|
| 13 mm | Compact blasting machines, short hose lines, and smaller nozzles |
| 19 mm | Mobile blasting work with medium air and abrasive requirements |
| 25 mm | Professional pressure blasting machines and medium to large nozzles |
| 32 mm | High air volumes, larger nozzles, and long blast hose lines |
The inside diameter of the blast hose should generally be approximately three to four times the nozzle inside diameter. For longer lines, a larger hose cross-section may be required to limit pressure losses.
Hose diameter and pressure loss
An undersized blast hose increases flow velocity and pressure loss. As a result, less operating pressure may be available at the blast nozzle, even if the compressor and blasting machine are adequately sized.
A larger inside diameter reduces flow resistance and can enable better performance at the nozzle, particularly with long hose lines. At the same time, a larger hose is heavier and less flexible.
The selection should therefore strike a sensible balance between airflow, hose length, maneuverability, and nozzle size.
Selecting the roll length
Depending on the inside diameter, ExtraBlast is available in 5, 20, or 40 meter rolls. The hose length should be selected so that the intended working area can be reached without unnecessary extensions.
A longer hose line provides a larger range of movement, but also causes additional pressure losses. Excess hose length should not lie in tight loops during operation.
- 📌 5 m: short connection or compact mobile system
- 📌 20 m: typical mobile and stationary blasting applications
- 📌 40 m: large working radius or custom hose assembly
Installing hose couplings and nozzle holders
Suitable blast couplings and nozzle holders are required for connecting the blasting machine and blast nozzle, matched to the respective hose outside diameter.
The connection fittings must be suitable for the hose type used, the outer diameter, and the maximum operating pressure. They must be installed with the specified mounting screws in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
An appropriate coupling safety device must also be used between interconnected blast couplings. Seals, screws, and securing elements must be regularly checked for condition and tight fit.
When selecting a blast coupling or nozzle holder, the relevant outer diameter of 27, 33, 39, or 48 mm is particularly important, not just the inner diameter.

Temperature-resistant from −30 °C to +80 °C
The ExtraBlast is designed for a wide temperature range from −30 °C to +80 °C. This allows the hose to be used both in cooler workshop and outdoor areas and at higher ambient temperatures.
The specified temperature refers to the hose's permissible operating conditions. Additional exposure to hot workpieces, flying sparks, open flames, or aggressive chemicals must be avoided.
📌 Safety and application instructions
- Do not exceed the maximum operating pressure of 12 bar
- Inspect the hose for damage before every use
- Use only compatible couplings and nozzle holders
- Fit coupling connections with suitable safety devices
- Do not drive over the hose or crush it with heavy components
- Avoid tight kinks and excessive bend radii
- Protect against sharp edges and hot surfaces
- Ensure an antistatic connection and proper grounding of the system
- Replace worn or damaged hoses immediately
- Fully depressurize the hose before carrying out maintenance work
Regular inspection and maintenance
Sandblasting hoses are subject to continuous internal wear from the abrasive media flowing through them. From the outside, the hose may initially appear undamaged despite an already reduced wall thickness.
The ExtraBlast should therefore be inspected regularly along its entire length. Areas subject to particularly heavy wear are often located near couplings, nozzle holders, tight hose bends, and points where the hose is dragged across the ground.
- Check the outer cover for cuts, cracks, and abrasion
- Feel along the hose for soft or unusually thin areas
- Check that couplings and nozzle holders are securely fitted
- Regularly check fastening screws according to the manufacturer's specifications
- Inspect seals for wear
- Check electrical conductivity and grounding connection
- Do not continue using severely worn hose sections
